What is Joomla?

Joomla!™ is what we call in the IT field, a CMS (Content Management System). What this essentially does for you as a site owner, is it allows you to add, update, or even delete content from your website using the various tools that come standard with Joomla!™ CMS. Here are some of the default tools that come standard with Joomla:

  • Article (Page) Manager with an Online WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) Text/Image Editor
  • User Registration and Management
  • Access Control for Public, Registered, and Administrative Users
  • Contact Management for Receiving Feedback
  • Search Engine Optimization features, such as Meta-Data and Keywords

You can also have your developer (or yourself with a little bit of training) add new functions (we call them extensions) to your website, such as the following:

  • Classified Ad Management
  • Form Processing
  • E-Commerce (Online Store)
  • Newsletter Signup & Mailout
  • Blog
  • Forums
  • Website Backup

I have listed some of the most requested extensions I have used, but by no means is this an exhaustive list. Joomla as of today has over 8000 extensions that bring new functionality to your Joomla! website.
